PreforPro is a patent pending prebiotic that promotes a healthy gut and immune system, and since it’s not fiber-based it won’t cause discomfort from bloating and flatulence.

The prebiotic mechanism of action in PreforPro is a bacteriophage. Phages are submicroscopic bundles of DNA and RNA with a protein shell that are abundant in nature—in seaweed, soil, fermented foods, and in the human body.

While not living entities, phages can reproduce by utilizing very specific living bacterial cells as their host. Once the phages encounter their host bacteria (bad bacteria), they incapacitate the cell and take over metabolic processes. Phage progenies are rapidly produced and destabilize the cell wall to escape and seek out more host bacteria cells. This effectively reduces the population of the host bacteria, providing more room for good bacteria (probiotics) to proliferate, thus providing more beneficial bacteria in the gut microbiota.

Here’s a more visual explanation:

PreforPro functions in both the small and large intestines to maintain overall GI support. Most prebiotics rely on the gut microbiota in the colon to even begin working, but PreforPro also works in the small intestine where most GI issues are located.

Since it doesn’t rely on fermenting in the large intestine to be effective, and it’s not fiber- or starch-based, PreforPro won’t cause gas, bloating, or flatulence. This helps you enjoy the benefits of a supported microbiome without the stomach discomfort caused by other prebiotics.

Plus, the bacteriophage design allows for a smaller effective dosage (15 mg compared to 10,000 mg) that works quickly to support the proliferation of beneficial bacteria, such as Lactobacillus in the small intestine and Bifodobacterium in the large intestine. Such a small dose allows PreforPro to easily be added to both human and pet supplements, as well as foods and beverages.

PreforPro has been shown to encourage the growth of these probiotic strains:

  • B. bifidum
  • B. breve
  • B. animalis
  • B. longum
  • L. acidophilus
  • L. paracasei
  • L. casei
  • L. rhamnosus
  • Lc. lactis
  • B. subtilis
